FUSE: KALEIDOSCOPE: ARTISTS COMMISSION
The theme of Somerfest 2019 in Taunton on Saturday 15th June is Kaleidoscope. With the support of the Arts Council of England, Fuse Somerfest Outdoor Arts is offering two commissions for performers and visual artists to create and showcase new work at the festival. With international cricket teams from different parts of the world visiting Taunton for the ICC Cricket World Cup, we would like to welcome the world to the town with an explosion of colour and sound.
We are looking for emergent performers and artists or groups from a wide range of disciplines: street arts, visual arts, digital arts, circus, music, youth and community pop up performance, dance, drama and arts practitioners. We will invite the commissioned artists to create new works that use the outdoor public spaces: Taunton Town Centre, Goodland Gardens and Castle Green. Each artist/group will be awarded £700.
The definition of ‘emergent’ is that you will be in the first five years of your career, practice; that you are showcasing work at events and beginning to have work performed or exhibited professionally, and in community settings; working in entry level roles in outdoor arts, circus, theatre, community venues/events galleries and street arts.
The ethos of the Somerfest will be to invite audiences to participate within the danceand music, arts, crafts and celebrations, and to share and celebrate difference in cultures and traditions.
Present an idea for a new performance, installation, trail or walkabout, pop up performance, dance, music or interactive arts installation. The piece can be 1 or more people or a group (artists must be confirmed by the applicant before applying). The piece needs to be performed / installed in the town spaces mentioned above. Specific details will be discussed upon offer or can be requested by email (email@example.com).
We will offer
- Professional mentoring and operational support
- Opportunity to perform display work at Somerfest Saturday 15th June 2019
- There will be support in developing marketing materials for the commission and where possible support with rehearsal and storage space
To apply, please send an email as an expression of interest that outlines your ideas and provides a short resume (word count maximum 500 words) of your relevant experience with links to previous works and any supporting documentation. The deadline for this application is midnight on Saturday 30th March 2019 (file size max 2mb).
We look forward to hearing from you.
